GYROKINESIS® Method

GYROKINESIS® classes can be adapted to fit anyone’s ability. People from all walks of life including accomplished athletes, fitness enthusiasts, senior citizens, and people recovering from an injury or dealing with a disability take GYROKINESIS® classes. By the end of a GYROKINESIS® session, one’s entire system is awakened and brought into greater balance. Focus on the breath stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in a sense of calm, well being and mental clarity.

The GYROKINESIS® method is a movement method that addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system, increasing range of motion and creating functional strength through rhythmic, flowing movement sequences. It is an original and unique method, which coordinates movement, breath, and mental focus.
What can people expect?
With GYROKINESIS® method, you start on a stool to warm up your spine and then progress to the floor to address hips, back and abs. GYROTONIC® employs a similar progression but uses custom equipment designed to allow movement with resistance and support. Either way, you get an intense workout that makes you sweat. You’ll leave feeling like you’ve had a full body massage.

Who can benefit?
Everyone. GYROTONIC® method can be modified for all fitness levels, from professional athletes to the physically disabled.

What’s the significance of arching the spine?
Ordinarily, gravitational forces pull us down and inward, toward spinal flexion and organ compression. To create a more ideal posture, GYROTONIC® exercises work to lengthen the spine into a natural and comfortable upright position. Your body naturally wants to arch!

What’s the role of breath?
Each exercise has a matching breath pattern, creating cardiovascular stimulation, either gentle or vigorous, depending on the intensity of execution. This allows us to generate and rejuvenate our bodies’ energies.

How often should you perform these workouts?
Two to three per week is best. That could mean two studio sessions and one at home, or a combination of GYROKINESIS® group classes and GYROTONIC® private lessons. Everyone’s needs are different.
What are the top benefits if you keep it up?
GYROTONIC® exercise increases strength, flexibility, coordination, balance, and posture; it stimulates and strengthens connective tissue; and it reduces stress and tension throughout your body. Ultimately, GYROTONIC® exercise teaches the body to regenerate and reorganize itself into a more desirable and supple form. The real benefits come from you, and they come from within. But we’re always here to help!
